Unusual take on "Send in the Clowns," and interesting arrangement on "Dear Prudence," and nice surprises on Jobim's "Waters of March."
An exceptional collaboration; Bachelder owns a wide ranging tenor voice. Bruns' solid and creative drum work is the glue that holds Cherry Avenue together. Bruns' accompaniment skills are top notch and his brush work is stellar.
Cherry Avenue, a wonderful offering that is sure to please any one that likes their music with jazz flavor, yet still cohesively easy to hum. Bachelder evokes a warm timbre vocal style that is fluent and full of passion. Highly original arrangements that bring new and creative light to this collection of familiar tunes. Highly recommended.
Bruns' drumming and tight arrangements provide the perfect setting for Bachelder's vocals. A gem.

An album that recalls the jazzier side of Blood, Sweat & Tears. Bachelder, who also plays trumpet, knows how to put a song across effectively.
Bachelder has a soft tenor voice, on which he proves his bona fides as a soulful singer, this CD is a terrific keeper and one I'm glad to encounter. A singer with a great range of emotion, carefully backed by Bruns' group.
Cherry Avenue is an entertaining mix of great vocals and terrific music. It is an album that showcases well the talents of Kevin Bachelder and the musicians who provided the framework for his vocals.
Can you kick it out on oldies with a smoking small band that swings and not sound like a Sinatra manqué? It can be done and Bachelder and his pals pull it off. Solid stuff by some pros that certainly have put in the time but want to spend more time close to home.
Bachelder is able to sing to the heart of each song with many embellishments that always comes off as a perfect reference to the original melody. Highly recommended.
It has all of the engaging exultance - the volley of major choruses are all too impressively efficient - and his poetic impulses are sprinkled with magical tune dust as the registral connections between movements of songs take some brilliant inspirational turns. Balance favours the instrumentation on this album [Cherry Avenue], once again affirming the drummer's ingenuity for arrangements with rich textural sketching.
What is best about this offering is the modernized, airy and very musical ideas that have enhanced what are already well-known pop culture hits.
Bachelder and Bruns have really put together a great project and offer a classy delivery of an enjoyable collection of tunes. The band is excellent and everyone plays from the heart with plenty of inspired improvisation, scatting, and group listening and interacting. What more could you ask for? An enjoyable listen, highly recommend.
